Week 3
It is day 17 out here in Provo 5/25/19. Feelsgoodman.
The only thing I miss is easy internet access. Like, that would solve so many questions. I wish I had memorized more song lyrics that were outside of the hymn book... there's only so many times that you can sing, "Big Strong Man." (by the Blaggards I think?). IT would ALSO be tight if I could play the ukulele HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Here's Some Week Highlights. At the end I'll have a segment I like to call, "FAVORITE CONVERSATIONS." Read that if you don't care about random details
- 5/19/19 Normally I wouldn't talk about food, but we got pizza (in a package?) from Hermana Sparks' mother. And it was fantastic. idk how it worked, but ya'kow if it works, then it works.
- Elder Gutke had this wild headache, and he wanted a priesthood blessing, so that was a cool opportunity to exercise the priesthood. He didn't want to take any acetaminophen or ibuprofen for it though? He changed his mind after he was reminded that we have to do all we can to fix our problem before we ask God to help us with it. "Work Will Win When Wishy Washy Wishing Won't" - Thomas S. Monson
5/20/19 We started on the Spanish part of learning. Cool. Not stressful really. I'm finding ways to challenge myself.
- Don't hold the door open at the MTC. Ever. People just keep coming. Occasionally I'll be part of a big crowd of people going through and I'll save the guy holding the door. Just h*ckin' grab the door frame, look him in the eye (it's always a him) and say, "go, my sweet child." They always run.
5/21/19
Elder Nielson and I didn't go to choir cus I didn't FEEL like it. We bonded 😎. Apparently he likes to write jokes, he's a DM, and he's a fantastic artist. I'm gonna buy one of his prints when I get home.
5/24/19
We moved buildings and that was v nice. I am gonna miss goodnight-hugs from the Thai missionaries, but it will nice to be next to the other Elders in our zone (zone is the name of a group of districts. A district is a group of companionships. a companionship is two missionaries of the same gender that stay together always.)
- Every single person I talk to that has been to Peru starts out the conversation by talking about how much they love the food. Nice. (insert orange justice dance break.)
A little extra:
I’ve been reminding myself to take It one day at a time. I am so grateful to have started with an English section because I learned how to ask good questions so that the people are basically teaching themselves. I've found that this approach is especially effective since my vocabulary is fairly lacking.
When the stake president told me that everything happens for a reason when we were talking about the visa issue, I didn't necessarily agree at first. Every day I agree more and more.
FAVORITE CONVERSATIONS
1.
Elder in a Wheelchair (EiaW): Ye, I just broke my leg :(
Me: Unfortunate
EiaW: ...
Me: ....
EiaW: ...
ME: Can you do any tricks in that baby yet?
EiaW: H*ck YA! Watch this (goes on his back two wheels on the rain-slicked concrete)
2.
Sister Missionary (SM): How did your eyes get like that, like having two different colors
Me: oh.... there... was an accident
SM: Oh no! what happened?
Me: I was born
See ya'll in 707 days :)
Here's a photo with the Thai Missionaries saying goodbye as we went to live in a different building.
