"This Elder had like two feet of hair"

The past two weeks.... the past two weeeeeekkkksss
(ok now that you've read that once, read it again to the tune of "The Best Two Years.")
I'm uploading new photos to the mission album as. we. speak.

Teachings I've learned for myself
  • Something that I really really liked from the Book of Mormon this past week was something a father said to his son. Alma said, "I wouldn't dwell on your crimes if it were not for your good." Something that everyone needs to remember is that sometimes the difficult conversations are what people need most!... even if they don't thank you for it then, or ever! That's not to say that it should be a continual nagging thing, (I like what president Uchtdorf I think said in the latest conference about preaching the gospel in every moment... and open your mouth if necessary) People need good loving support in their lives. Please don't be afraid to give it.
  • Something I never noticed about the classic 2,060 stripling warriors of Helaman story: "They obeyed every word of command with exactness and according to faith," and they were kept safe. Those words of command came from the people that had been ordained as leaders for them. Imperfect men and women. How much better off were the 2060 stripling warriors for following their leaders EXACTLY? Not a single one perished, though all had many wounds. The other armies of their allies had been DECIMATED... but not them. Tell me, knowing this story, why do we doubt the words of our own imperfect, yet righteous, leaders? (trainers, bishops, Prophets, and fathers and mothers...)

Favorite Moments:
  • (our pesionista sets down plates of food for Elder Cristeche and I)
    • Elder Quispe: hey where's mine?
    • Me: The Peruvian food is for only us tonight. You get to enjoy a traditional African dish
  • I ate chicken neck this week. Like there was a choice between chicken neck and nothing and I chose the neck, like a FOOL.
  • "What if we treated hands like clothing where we only washed them if they smelled or looked weird?"
  • We had a bunch of new missionaries fresh from the Lima MTC that we spent the day with. Went on splits and I was able to lead a newbie all over our area. Nice. He spoke Spanish like a pro! He was also like, Bolivian I think.
  • Did the same thing again with a missionary of 11 months so definitely super awesome to have him show me his cool teaching tricks. Showed me this great metaphor for Prophets: tell people to close their eyes and try to have their hand follow your hand through the air (not touching). They can't (duh). Then have their hand grasp one side of a pen and your hand the other. They can follow super well now. That pen represents prophets. Also his name was Elder Pineda I think and he had long hair like 2 feet. He's from Ecuador, so it's cool.
