Miercoles
Had a great interchange with Elder Arguellas. He is from Mexico, and is very loving. He's like a big teddy bear. Very proper, and has exact pronunciation. Amazing missionary.
Despite that we had a hard time filling our schedule, I felt that God was satisfied. We kept busy and we always had someone to teach. We started inviting people to be baptized in the contact! It was amazing. People want this when they can feel your love for them.
Angelica: We came to the house of a member for whom my companion had set an appointment with. He had to leave right as we got there so we visited with his wife and his sister in law. His wife told us about how they were doing, and introduced her sister as Angelica, the catholic. (We have a lot of respect for the religion of each other and... blah blah blah.) Anyways, I just had a burning question that kept returning to my mind. Has she asked God if she should be baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints?
It went like:
Me: Do you believe that God answers your prayers?
Her: Yes! I have had many experiences and miracles.
Me: Do you believe that he would answer you if you asked him if you should be baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?
(everyone silent)
Her: I… I think he would. I've actually investigated the church for awhile, and I've even come to church various times in the past. It's just that I decided that since I still live in the same house as my mom, I will stay Catholic, and maybe further on I can convert.
(I shared Hebrews 12:9)
Me: When you made that decision to not be baptized, did you make that decision with yourself, or with God?
Her: I… didn't make it with God.
Elder Arguelles shares a powerful experience about how is Grandmother practically disowned his father when he converted at 12 years old. Elder Arguelles is only able to be here and know God for himself as he does for the actions of his father. His grandmother continues a catholic, but because of him leaving on a mission, she has started to receive missionaries.
